Call for Applications 2025
YAMAGUCHI MEDALS IN BIOMECHANICS
for early career researchers
About the Medal
The Medal is named after Professor Takami Yamaguchi who is the Founding Chair of the Asian-Pacific Association for Biomechanics (APAB). The purpose of the
Yamaguchi Medal is to support and encourage promising young researchers at the early stage of their career in the field of Biomechanics in the Asian-Pacific region. Following a rigorous assessment of all applications, the Yamaguchi Medals will be awarded to individuals who have best demonstrated excellence in their areas of research.
The purpose of the Yamaguchi Medal is to support and encourage promising young researchers at the early stage of their career in the field of Biomechanics in the Asian-Pacific region, i.e., the membership countries and regions of the Asian-Pacific Association for Biomechanics. The Yamaguchi Medals will be awarded to individuals who excel in their research. Yamaguchi Medals will be awarded during the biennial Asian-Pacific Conference of Biomechanics.
Judging and Research Categories
Judging of applications for these awards will be based on assessments carried out by a specially appointed APAB Awards Committee, consisting of members of the council, and various sub-committees of expertise formed by the APAB Awards Committee for the different research categories.
Research Categories:
- Cell and Molecular Biomechanics
- Tissue Biomechanics
- Organ Biomechanics
- Gait and Kinesiology
- Computational Biomechanics
- Medical Innovation
- Product Development
- Emerging Technology
The categories serve as a guide to both applicants and assessors and can be reviewed or modified as need arises, by the APAB Awards Committee.
The number of medals awarded will depend on the number of applications, and the quality of the applications. For example, if a certain category receives many applications of very high quality, the assessors may recommend more than one medal for that category.
Eligibility

Asian-Pacific: Applicants should be able to demonstrate a strong affiliation1 to an academic or research institution in the list of Asian-Pacific membership countries and regions. Membership Countries and Regions:
- Australia
- China
- Hong Kong

- New Zealand
- Singapore
- Taiwan
- Thailand
Yamaguchi Medals will be awarded during the Asian-Pacific Conference of Biomechanics.
Please note that medal recipients will thus be obliged to present their talks in a special APAB Yamaguchi Medal session at the 13th Asian-Pacific Conference on Biomechanics, in Auckland, Nov 18-22, 2025.
Hence, before submitting, the applicant should consider seriously the ability to attend the APAB conference.
